Martha Bryant with her two artistic dogs, Bama and Dutchess, celebrate winning their painting for the top bid of the evening at $16,000.
On August 18th, Hand-in-Paw hosted its 7th annual fundraising event that's like no other, Picasso Pets Animal Artist Debut and Auction.
It actually began in the spring, when 20 prominent citizens accompanied their pets came to Hand-in-Paw's downtown Birmingham office. There they and their talented animals worked with select local artists --- their personal muses --- to create one-of-a-kind paintings.
These remarkable pieces were put on the auction block in an entertaining night of guardians sparring with bidding paddles to win their precious pet's artwork. Along with the live auction is an enticing silent auction, singers, dinner, drinks, and mingling with about 600 others all their to support a good cause.
Picasso Pets is a night of fun with a serious purpose. This year, the $320,000 raised at this event made up almost half of Hand-in-Paw's operating budget for the entire year! Thanks to this generosity, Hand-in-Paw provided free interactions and animal-assisted therapy to more than 40,000 patient/client contacts.
Make your plans now to be at Hand-in-Paw's Picasso Pets in August 16 2008.
